Grandparent's Day
Marian Mcquade is the founder of Grandparent’s Day. A housewife from West Virginia, USA, Mcquade is the mother of 15 children, grandmother of 40 grandchildren and a great-grandmother of three. With so many descendants, Mcquade was well aware of the special bond children share with their grandparents and believed children should spend more time with their grandparents.
In 1978, President Jimmy Carter declared Grandparent’s Day would be celebrated on the first Sunday after Labour Day.
